Welcome to VicsLab.org, a companion website to VicsLab.com that advocates for the visibility, perception, and readership of original English light novels.
Authors of original English light novels (OELNs) are under-represented. There is public stigma that authors who write stories in the format of Japanese light novels are just wannabees or fan-fiction writers, and their writings aren’t taken seriously. As a result, the books are buried on online stores such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc., and physical bookstores and anime-related product websites don't carry them. There are great authors of OELNs, and we want to change that perception and help them succeed. To do that, our goals are to increase the visibility of these books; change the perception that people have of these books; and increase readership. This is where you come in. We need your help to spread the word. Learn about the cause, discover authors of OELNs, join our forums to be part of the community, and support authors bysharing, purchases, or donating.
My goal in founding the VicsLab.com publishing company was not with profit in mind. It was to support authors who write the books I love. But there’s one particular niche that struck a cord with users and guided the direction of the site: original English light novels. It wasn't long before I discovered the stigma that authors face of being fan-fiction writers and the difficulty it is for authors to be recognized as professional writers and be represented in bookstores. To overcome these obstacles, I created this website to educate readers and support authors of OELNs. If are interested in OELNs, join this site and see how you can help.
If you are an author, wouldn't you want more readers to share your worlds with? Writing an OELN is not profitable for authors. They do so out of a labor of love for anime and their desire to write stories that others may enjoy. They spend a lot of time working on their stories and find it difficult to make sales due to perception. People who hear of their books may think they write fan-fiction and may perceive the quality to be poor. If you enjoy light novels and care about authors, please consider helping them. It could be as simple as telling others about their books, buying one yourself, or donating your time or money. By doing so, you'll have raise awareness and encourage more authors to write books for you to enjoy.
